This website is a chronicle and celebration of the power of visuals in feminist protests across eras and continents. As a work in progress, it is designed to grow into a collectively built platform that traces the power of visuals—from the handcrafted banners of the suffragette movement to today’s digital uprisings, like #MeToo and the “Women, Life, Freedom” campaign in Iran.
Throughout history, protest has been an important force of social transformation. In the context of feminist activism, protests have challenged norms, broken barriers and advanced the goal of gender equality. At its heart, protest is about more than just resistance: it is a powerful expression of a collective voice seeking change.
Visuals have always played a vital part in raising this voice and giving a face to marginalized narratives. The banners shown, the colors chosen and the artistic expressions used are powerful tools of communication designed to catch the eye, provoke discussions, build unity and ensure that the struggles and hopes of feminists are seen and recognized.
Our aim in starting this digital journey is to inspire, fascinate and inform. We will try to cover a wide variety of perspectives and demands ranging from gender equality, visibility, diversity, intersectionality and inclusion, to addressing issues like gender-based violence, LGBTQAI+ rights, reproductive rights and body positivity, among others.
